I Do Not Want To Be The ''Best Rapper'' But A Successful One - Olamide

2015 has undoubtedly been a spectacular year for Olamide aka Baddo. From one hit single to another the talented rapper has indeed proven that the race is definitely not for the weak.

In an exclusive interview and premiere of his fifth studio album titled ''#EYANMAYWEATHER'  on the Midday Oasis with Do2dtun and Taymi ,the rapper gave an in debt explanation as to why he decided not to feature any artist on his new album , he said...

If i do what every other artist is doing out there, how then am i different from them? I needed to prove that i am different and exceptional, while i was making the songs, there were some songs which i would have naturally featured the likes of Wizkid, Davido or Wande Coal but i needed to challenge myself and prove that i can handle my business myself without help.

When asked how he felt about being the best rapper, the modest hit maker said " i do not want to be the best rapper,i just want to make good music and be successful''
Speaking on his up coming concert ''OLIC 2'' which would be taking place on the 27th of December at the Eko Hotels Convention centre , Olamide mentioned that it would indeed be fun filled and exciting.

Olamide – “I Spent 6 Years In The Studio Before My First Single”

Just like every other successful entertainer, rapper Olamide had his own grass to grace story.

The indigenous rapper in an interview with Andre Blaize, said that he had to spend six years in the studio with his former producer and mentor, ID Cabasa learning how to churn out hit songs.
Growing up in Bariga, the rapper and singer from a humble family background had to decide on what he wants from life early and that was music even against the wish of his family.
“I approached ID Cabasa with my group of a song that we were doing but he did not have time for us as he was busy with other artistes. I met Lord Of Ajasa at the Coded Tunes studio.
Having adored music from church, I felt music was it for me and I hung around at the studio watching how songs were made. At a time, I practically lived in that studio having left home for good.
It took me six years in the studio learning and being tutored all I could from ID Cabasa before I finally dropped Eni Duro.
I never knew it would be accepted. We just did it and dropped it at the Sound Cloud and good comments were made of it.
Someone asked us to change the beats and not spoil the song with the beat that it came out with initially and ID Cabasa listened and the single became a hit.
The road to success doesn’t come easy,” says Olamide.
Olamide is building an army in his new label YBNL (Yahoo Boy No Laptop) with Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Shinko Ekun and others.

Kuramo: This seedy Beach of a place: Inside one of Lagos’ crime, sex and drug empires

Kuramo Beach on Lagos Island fell to ocean fury and the rage of the Lagos State government in 2012. The state government had closed down the popular beach, following the confirmation that the known relaxation spot and a tourist site, had morphed into a danger zone where nefarious activities like prostitution and crime throve.
However, after that clampdown, hundreds of the prostitutes, drug peddlers and other criminal elements that previously operated in Kuramo Beach migrated to Lekki and set up businesses near the Lekki Beach. They ‘invaded’ a neighbourhood, an expanse of land beside Alhaji Lateef Jakande Low Cost Housing Estate, located on Beach Gate Road. This road leads to the Lekki Beach from Jakande Second Gate. This is a thoroughfare into other four communities: Igbara, Maiyegun, Aro and Ologolo.
This neighbourhood, Saturday Sun gathered, used to be an open place, after what was known as the Artists Village there was demolished by the government. A few of the evicted residents of Kuramo Island came there and asked to be given space to erect make-shift shelters while they sorted out their lives. The omo onile (land owners) saw their request as a source of business, and then rented a small space to them for about N10,000. That was how they built the lounges seen along the beach road.
The omo oniles gave an inch, but these ‘investors’ took miles, as they turned the locale into a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah, and even named their new base ‘Small Kuramo’. Now immoral and criminal activities that lead to the demolition of Kuramo Beach now flourish in this neighbourhood. And this has changed this community from a normal residential environment to a territory where drugs and sex are the major articles of trade.

From A Poor Boy In Mushin To The President’s Official Photographer – The Inspiring Story Of “Bayo Omoboriowo

Meet Bayo Omoboriowo; President Buhari’s official photographer and guess what? He is just 28 – written by Chukwudi Iwuchukwu.

For many Nigerians on social media, we always admire the beautiful pictures of our new President, Muhammed Buhari. We admire the elegance and the story the pictures portray, we salute the aesthetics behind the image but not many know that the guy behind it all is Bayo Omoboriowo the official photographer of the president and amazingly, he’s just 28.

When I met Bayo for the First time February 14 this year at Buhari Valentine dinner here in Lagos, I did not know who he was, he was dressed in an impeccable manner, with suit and tie and then was carrying his camera like a baby I thought he was just one of those “I just came back to Nigeria” guys who like over dressing with their camera not until he told me to stand for him to take a snap shot of me, I did and after the shoot, we got talking, when he mentioned his name, I remembered I had read his interview 3 years back, an Interview he did with Bella Naija talking about his passion for photography, his dreams and where he want to be in the years to come using the instrument of his camera.

My respect for him grew higher that moment and I told myself: “Indeed Dreams come true” Bayo Omoboriowo was born without silver spoon, he tasted poverty, experienced the low esteem Poverty inflicts on its victims but never allowed his past to define him, he decided to change his story and that he has successfully been able to do looking at what he has done for himself within a space of 6 years

He took his destiny by his hand, discovered his passion which was photography, refined and turned it to a business and income making project.

One thing you have to give to this young man is this, he never allowed the distraction that being a youth bring to distract him from his focus , he graduated from University Of Lagos in 2009 and since then he has only been doing one thing, Photography and today, he is the official photographer of our dear President.

Bayo is one of the 20 man delegation that followed Buhari to Germany On Sunday , seeing his name on that list brought smile to my face, this shows how far he has gone and where God has taken him to. I could not have been prouder of my generation and the envelop we are pushing, the stories we are changing and the boundaries we are taking in spite of the difficulties of being a Young Nigerian.

Bayo’s life is teaching young people what is possible and doable, , a man born in poverty at Mushin Lagos 28 years ago is flying with the President all over the world today because of his passion and determination to give meaning to his life, what then is your excuse?
Life is too short to just waste on unnecessary gallivanting. Discover your passion, key into it and start now. You don’t need capital to start, you just need few people who believe in your passion and would do anything to see it come to fruition.

Your network determines your net worth; those friends around you have a lot to do with your tomorrow, more than you know. Bayo’s of this world are passing a compelling message to young people to leave every other thing that is distracting them and run with their dreams. Lives and destinies are tied to that dream and that is the more reason you need to take that bold step and believe in your ability to do it.
Again let me emphasize, Bayo started from the bottom, he started with zero capital. he had nothing except his incredible belief in God and the dream he has and nothing more.

I wish you all the best in this journey and hope to celebrate your journey tomorrow.

PREMIERE: Darey – Asiko Laiye Ft Olamide (Mp3 DOWNLOAD)

The diversity that forms part of the Darey’s latest album, Naked is apparent on a song like Asiko Laiye, which draws its prime influence from the Father of contemporary African music, Fela Anikulapo Kuti

The serious, yet light hearted tune is an ode to Afrobeat, but with the vocal delivery of an R n’ B song, fused with the African “street-hop” flavor contributed by Nigerian indigenous Hip-Hop superstar, Olamide who features on the track.
